Upcycled Grain Project features on Radio New Zealand!
Our CEO Jan Meyer sat down with Katherine Ryan on RNZ's nine to noon, to discuss all things Upcycled Grain Project.
Upcycled Grain Project began as an idea in 2019, we wanted to find a sustainable ingredient that was filled with health benefits. During this search one of our team members suggested 'spent brewers grain. We contacted some local Wellington breweries to see if this was of interest to them, and just as we were wanting to make positive impacts on the environment they were too!
The process to rescue this grain, involves collection of the grain that is then brought back to our factory. From here, we dry the grain in a carefully crafted process to ensure the best quality. Once this is completed we begin the work to turn it into flour for our range of snacks.
Did you know that over 40% of food is wasted annually. Think of going to the supermarket for your weekly shop, purchasing 5 bags filled with food and leaving 2 at the supermarket...you would never do that, but that is the reality of the food waste crisis.
By rescuing this grain we are helping to reduce food waste, reliance on new resources and CO2 emissions.
Have a listen to our journey here.
